Private Residence, Belgravia

London, United Kingdom

Properties in dense urban settings such as London often present a particular challenge when designing outdoor spaces. Rear gardens are frequently inaccessible from the street, and access through the house can be narrow, constrained, and logistically complex. As a result, larger items such as dining tables and loungers can become limiting factors, forcing designers to compromise on scale, proportion, or material. This was precisely the challenge faced by Stacy Louise Interiors on this elegant residential project in Belgravia.

Oxley’s was approached in February 2024 with a brief to adapt our Sienna 2140 dining table to suit both the scale of the garden and the physical constraints of access through the property. The client wanted the presence and generosity of a substantial outdoor dining table, without sacrificing the refined proportions of the Sienna design. However, manufacturing the table as a single welded piece, as we would normally do, made it impossible to manoeuvre safely through the house.

Working closely with the designer, we developed a bespoke solution. Rather than fabricating the table as one solid unit, the structure was re-engineered into individual components. The legs were cast separately, along with a dedicated table-top frame, allowing each element to be carried through the property without damage to the interior or the furniture itself. Once in the garden, the table was assembled and securely bolted together on site.

To further support this modular approach, the traditional metal tabletop was replaced with a bespoke black glass top. This reduced weight, simplified installation, and introduced a subtle contemporary contrast to the architectural lines of the Sienna base. The result was a dining table that retained the strength, presence, and elegance of the original design, while responding intelligently to the realities of an urban site.

The dining area was completed with six Sienna armchairs, paired with Ecru cushions to soften the scheme and complement the surrounding architecture. Protective covers were supplied to ensure the furniture remains pristine when not in use, supporting year-round outdoor living in the city.

Beyond the dining space, two Sienna lounge chairs were specified for a terrace overlooking the garden. These were also carefully manoeuvred through the house, demonstrating the importance of planning, experience, and coordination when delivering furniture into challenging locations.

This Belgravia project is a clear example of how bespoke manufacturing extends far beyond aesthetics. By adapting construction methods, materials, and installation processes, we were able to deliver a solution that respected the design intent while overcoming the practical constraints of a central London property. It is this level of flexibility and collaboration that allows Oxley’s furniture to work seamlessly in even the most demanding residential settings.
