In collaboration with the National Trust, our Octavia dining chair is a traditional English garden chair, designed to sit gracefully among flower beds, herbaceous borders, or in corners where formal lines and structured geometry feel out of place. Its proportions and detailing encourage comfortable seating while highlighting the natural beauty of the surrounding garden.
DESIGN
Named after Octavia Hill, one of the founding members of the National Trust, the Octavia design draws inspiration from a detail in an 1872 pen and ink drawing of an herbaceous border by the nineteenth century garden designer Gertrude Jekyll. This historic floral motif is reinterpreted in cast aluminium, appearing in beautifully intricate detail across the chair back, seat, and in the tops of our tables in the same design. The result is a cohesive design language that feels decorative yet disciplined, rooted in English garden heritage.
WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL
Like all our English garden furniture our Octavia dining chairs are handmade from recycled aluminium. Each piece is constructed as one over numerous hours from many individual sand castings. Once complete each dining chair is individually finished in our customer’s own choice of colour and cushion fabric. All the effort in our factory goes into ensuring that each piece is totally weatherproof, wherever in the world it is situated, and completely maintenance free. Everything we create is intended to last generations.
