Things made well make life better – and the world more sustainable. With this belief I founded Oxley’s Furniture in 1991 and I’m still as passionate about it three decades on.
Oxley’s crafts luxury outdoor aluminium furniture – helping our customers to create outdoor spaces with enduring elegance. Our bespoke furniture has always been made to order, so they get the look they want, and our furniture has always been made sustainably.
Inspired by a 150-year-old Victorian bench found on a walk in the middle of the countryside we started the business with the ambition to make the most durable and long-lasting outdoor furniture possible, in a sustainable way. We also wanted to ensure a positive, healthy and fair work environment for all our staff whatever their job. The fact that many of the Oxley’s team have been with us for more than fifteen years, and one more than twenty-five years, seems to illustrate that we are all passionate about what we do!
We decided right from the word go that sustainability was the most important aspect of Oxley’s furniture. At the time we started, the majority of outdoor furniture sold was plastic or rainforest teak. Our furniture has always been made of recycled aluminium, coming from drinks cans, alloy wheels and airplane parts.
We are now working hard to make the business as circular as possible by offering all our customers a unique buy back guarantee, ensuring our products have no end of life. We also offer a refurbishment service where we will renovate aluminium furniture from any manufacturer, giving it a new lease of life.
My pride in what we have achieved in the business is in the joy that our furniture gives our customers over the decades. This is annually illustrated on our exhibition stand at the RHS Chelsea Flower show where customers regularly thank us for the furniture they purchased 20, 25 even 30 years ago, which looks just as good as when they first bought it. When we are long gone our beautiful furniture will still be giving the next generation joy.
